When we were planning things to see and do in England, my sister really wanted to see Stone Henge. "Great!" I said. "Let's go to Stone Henge!"
Getting tickets was not so easy. After many back-and-forth e-mails with the good people at the Stone Henge ticket office, she found out there were no tickets to be had for the dates she wanted.
But then! She received an e-mail saying there had been a cancellation and did we want those tickets? YES WE DID! The only glitch....they were for 5:00am on July 14th.
As the house we're staying in is a 1.5 hour drive from Wiltshire, that meant leaving Taunton 3:45am. Which meant getting up at 3:15am.
The alarm went off and we groggily padded into the kitchen for a quick cup of coffee and a slice of toast. We piled into the car and were on our way.
We arrived at Stone Henge in the pre-dawn light. We were given a lecture by the security guards telling us not to touch the stones. We, along with 20 other people, walked toward the towering monoliths. During regular opening hours people are not allowed into the circle of stones. But we were! How lucky we got those tickets!
Being inside Stone Henge was magical. Being there to watch the sun rise incredible. Thanks for getting those tickets for us, Chrissy. It was an experience I'll never forget.
