A Hike In The Quantock Hills

We were given great advice to hike in the nearby Quantock Hills. This morning we filled our backpacks with hats, snacks and water, put on our boots and were on our way.

The Quantock Hills are beautiful. Covered in heather, grasses and gorse.

We saw wild ponies and horses loitering in the shade of oak trees.

Again, we marvelled at the patchwork quilt of greens, browns and yellows off in the distance.

After reaching the summit, we made a wrong turn. We were supposed to keep right, but instead we veered left. This error took us straight down a very narrow and very, very steep trail through the woods. Joe, Chrissy and Kevin all made it down on their own two feet. But me? I butt-surfed all the way!

Our reward was waiting for us at the bottom of the hill. The Blue Ball Inn welcomed us with open arms.

We ate sandwiches and chips. Quaffed our thirst with cider and beer. And the best part of lunch? Sticky toffee pudding with a dollop of clotted cream for dessert! Eaten by all four of us in about 20 seconds.

The waitress told us how to get back to our car without having to our re-trace our steps. THANK GOODNESS!

What a beautiful hike in a beautiful part of the world. Thanks Claire and Nick for suggesting we hike in the Quantock Hills. We loved it.
