I Love The English

The English are a friendly lot. We have experienced so many happy, laughing, helpful people in this country. Whether they are mechanics in garages, shopkeepers, taxi drivers or traffic cops, everyone has bent over backwards to make sure we get to where we're going. Or to have a laugh with us at least.

Our neighbours have been fantastic. Very friendly and welcoming. We've even been invited to a neighbourhood party on August 3rd!

One evening we were sitting in a corner of the garden discussing our plans for the next few days when we suddenly heard a voice "Do you need any help?" And then a head popped up over the fence! The neighbour Glen was full of interesting ideas for our trip to the North Devon coast.

One night last week we received a phone call from the Jenkins' daughter's father-in-law inviting us to go for a walk with him and his wife on the Quantock Hills. And would we like to join them for a cream tea afterwards at Stable Cottage? YES PLEASE!

We instantly liked Roy and Rosa. They were sweet and charming and warm. We wandered about the hills for an hour, Roy teaching us about the flora and the fauna.

We saw the wild ponies again. (And they even let us pet them this time!). We picked and ate whortleberry berries. We looked across the Bristol Channel to Wales. We learned about heathers.

Then it was off to Stable Cottage for tea. Rosa was mother and poured tea for us all. The scones, jam and clotted cream were out of this world. I only asked for one scone and instantly had buyer's remorse. I could easily have eaten ten.

Thank you good people of England! Your warmth and humour are greatly appreciated. You continue to make our travels so enjoyable.
