Shopping Spree Encore

And the shopping continues.

Joe can barely contain himself waiting for his beloved dual-action espresso machine to arrive from Italy.  His 'coffee corner' is set up and waiting for the machine to complete its nautical journey across the Atlantic Ocean.

To pass the time today, Joe made a cardboard mock-up of the espresso machine to see how it would fit in the corner of the kitchen.  (The ruler is the lever, in case you were wondering.)  I hope the corner is big enough to house such a monster.

We bought a set of dishes at Pier 1 Imports yesterday.  Ten of everything.  "White dishes are the best for showing off food," says Joe.  I believe him.

For years our coffee table was a tiny occasional table that we took from Joe's grandmother's basement in the mid-80s.  It had been painted purple by Joe's uncle.  We had it refinished and over the years that poor little table suffered bumps and bangs like crazy.  I think someone even carved a telephone message into its varnish one time.

We've been thinking about what kind of coffee table we wanted to replace it with.  We wanted something large with clean lines.  Something unique.  We wanted it to make a statement.

We didn't have to look any further than our own backyard.  Friends of ours, Rick and Joanne Bowerman, are the proprietors of 'Bowerman's Antiques and Handcrafted Furniture' here in Squamish.

Rick crafted this table from a maple tree that was felled at Porteau Cove during the construction project to improve the Sea-to-Sky Highway for the 2010 Winter Olympics.  

It is beautiful.  It is perfect.  We love it.
