Gettin' Close To The Home Stretch

We are nearing the home stretch now, people.  The HOME STRETCH I say!

Lots has been happening around here during the last couple of days, including our cat getting sick with a severe bacterial infection.  So in addition to getting new counter tops and drawer handles and driving to and from Vancouver to pick up more backsplash tiles because we've tweaked our design, we've been running back and forth to the veterinarian's office on a daily basis to get Daisy hooked up to an IV drip of antibiotics.  Fun times!

The range vent chimney is on.

The repairman came to see if the dropped refrigerator can be repaired.
(The jury is still out.)

Measuring for the correct placement of the handles.

The door handles are on!

Everything is perfectly level.

Our friend Colleen (a.k.a. Our Kitchen's Fairy Godmother) helped us pick out a paint colour for the walls.

Pick a neutral, any neutral.
We chose Benjamin Moore's 'Edgecombe Grey' (not shown).

Joe loves to paint and painted the kitchen, dining room and living room.  We'll leave the rest of the house to be painted by the professionals in the New Year.

The Silestone quartz counter tops arrived yesterday.  It took 5 strong men to carry in the largest piece.  The guys were straining under the weight of it as they carried up our stairs.  I couldn't look.

Out of the truck...

...into the house...

...up the stairs and onto a dolly to maneuvre it into the kitchen...

...placing it onto the cabinets...

...and laying it in place.  Whew!  I'm glad that's over.  Now I can look.

Making sure the sink will fit.

Attaching the counters to the cabinets.

Precision workmanship.

Drilling the hole for the faucet.

The counter is now ready for the sink to be installed.
Won't this be a pretty place to wash dishes?

The counters...

...are in!

The paint colour and the counter tops were made for each other!

I love you Silestone 'Alpina White'.

As an added bonus, we had Amir make us a new counter top for our bathroom vanity!

Amir (on the right) and his crew.  Amir is a wonderful man.  I highly recommend him.

We hired a local interior designer, Shelley Jacobsen, to stop by for an hour and give us some tips of the trade.  She was quite impressed with our cabinet, floor, counter and colour choices.   We picked her brain about furniture placement, window coverings, and hanging the light fixture in the entrance way.  She gave us some great advice.

The lovely and talented Shelley Jacobsen

There is going to be one more day of work in our house before everyone books off for the Christmas holidays.  We are expecting the plumber, the electrician and Marcel with his crew.  Stay tuned.....
